Bucks Knocks Out Hunger
BKO Hunger 2014 was on June 20th and it was awesome. Over 500 volunteers, numerous advocates and tons of donors made BKO Hunger even bigger and better than last year.
We were lucky to exceed our goal of $55,000 raised. That allowed us to provide 100,000 nutritious meals, over 44,000 pounds of fresh local produce, and thousands of pounds of perishables to local pantries.
In 2015, our goal is 15% higher. We plan to raise $63,250 – a 15% increase in 2015.
To meet this goal, we need steering committee volunteers. These key volunteers will help with marketing and publicity, canisters, fundraising, event day planning, and more. To get involved, contact Tim Philpot at firstname.lastname@example.org or 215.949.1660 ext 104.
About the Project
Bucks Knocks Out Hunger is a community-driven hunger fighting project that unites thousands of donors, advocates, and volunteers.
It is both a one day food packing event and a fundraiser for Bucks County’s food pantries. Over 100,000 nutritious, shelf-stable meals are packed by volunteers at just 25 cents each.
Money raised also provides tens of thousands of pounds of locally grown produce, lean proteins, and other items which can be hard for pantries to secure.
Need in Bucks County
1 in 10 residents and 15% of all children in Bucks County are considered “food insecure.” We believe that in a community like ours, no child should go to bed hungry. No family should have to choose between food on the table and a roof over their heads. No older adult should have to skip meals so that they can afford medication. BKO Hunger changes everything for people in need.
Impact of Our 2014 Collective Donations
- $25,000 allowed Bucks County volunteers to pack and distribute 100,000 meals. Our meal supplies are purchased through our partners at Outreach, Inc. for just 25 cents per meal.
- $37,000 provided meals AND allows us to work with Delaware Valley College’s Hope of the Harvest Charitable Garden and greenhouses to provide more than 30,000 lbs of produce.
- $45,000 provided all of the above and helps Rolling Harvest Food Rescue work with small, sustainable farms in Bucks County to provide additional produce.
- $55,000 provided all of the above PLUS lean proteins and other perishable items that do not typically come in through food drives. This money helps pantries fill the gaps when they are critically low. Funds are distributed through the network of pantries by Bucks County Opportunity Council.
