Parenting

Children learn through their important relationships; they learn when they feel the security of caring adults, which in turn allows them to be motivated and engaged in what they are learning.  The adults in a child’s life have the greatest impact and responsibility for their development. Parents (or guardians) are a child’s first teacher.

The Born Learning™ campaign, created in partnership by United Way of America, the Ad Council, Civitas and the Families and Work Institute, is designed to support parents and caregivers in their efforts to encourage early learning.  SB6 will  distribute Born Learning™ materials through the county’s existing network of organizations and providers as well as through new partners to reach parents outside traditional social service networks.

Our SB6 initiative will help parents increase and enhance their child’s learning through everyday moments and activities together:

    • Helping parents make everyday moments “teachable moments” through the Born Learning™ Educational Materials
    • Assisting parents with access to services and resources for healthy development of their children ages 0-6
    • Identifying programs to support parents in their capacity as role models
