Barnes & Noble Hosts Book Drive to Benefit Bucks County Kids

AChild'sWorld (26)Oxford Valley Barnes & Noble is hosting their annual Holiday Book Drive from November 1 until December 31, with all donations going to Bucks County kids in need. This is the seventh year in a row that the Oxford Valley Barnes & Noble has donated the proceeds of this book drive to United Way of Bucks County programs.

The book drive will give local children access to books in their early years, promoting literacy and giving children the chance to foster a love of reading. For many children, this will be their very first book.

Making sure children and families have access to books in their home sets kids up for success. Studies show that when children between the ages of 3 and 5 are read to three times a week, they are twice as likely to:

  • recognize all letters of the alphabet
  • have word-sight recognition, and
  • understand words in context

With these skills, kids will be able to read on their own sooner, with greater comprehension.

The Holiday Book Drive is a national initiative for Barnes & Noble. Each branch of the store chooses a local nonprofit to support. In 2013, Barnes & Noble provided 1.5 million books to children, with the help of over 2,000 nonprofits nationwide. You can learn more here.

Oxford Valley Barnes & Noble has set a goal of 5,000 donated books by December 31. To contribute, please stop by the store to donate a book for kids in need.
