It’s Time to Stuff the Bus!

Back-to-school season is right around the corner, and UW Bucks is at it again! For the fourth year in a row, we are hosting Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive to help kids in need start the school with the supplies and confidence they need to succeed in school.

This year, our goal is to pack 1,251 backpacks. We need your help to make this happen. You can drop off donations at any of our collection points, or organize your own mini-drive to get your friends involved too!

Most urgently needed items include:

  • Backpacks
  • Glue Sticks
  • Scissors (blunt ended for younger children, pointed for older children)
  • Hand-held pencil sharpeners
  • Crayons
  • Marble composition books
  • Markers
  • Three-ring binders (1 inch)
  •  Loose-leaf notebook paper
  • Book Covers
  • Gift cards to Walmart, K Mart or Target (for agencies to purchase other supplies)

All supplies will be sorted and packed into backpacks on Wednesday 8/19 and Thursday 8/20 at Cummins Power Systems, one of our sponsor companies.

“With back to school fast approaching, we here at Cummins Power Systems want to help every student start out on the right path. Our acts of kindness make a positive difference one student at a time and one family at a time,” says Jennifer Dredge of Cummins’ sales department. “We know one of the easiest ways to help these children is to make a donation to support help children succeed.”

Stuff the Bus is also sponsored by Bank of America, PECO, and Sesame Place. Cummins will host the sorting and packing of school supplies for the second year in a row, accompanied by volunteers from the other sponsors and other community members.

“For me, this is more than just an opportunity to check a box, but to do something that actually can have a positive impact on a child’s life,” said Kelley Tate, President, Cummins Power Systems, LLC. “I remember the feeling of pride that I had when I showed up at school that first day with new school supplies, which were sometimes provided by a charitable organization such as the United Way. I also remember the shame and despair when I did not have the proper school supplies.  How you start the year at that age can often determine how you finish.”

We ask that all donations are brand new. A full list of drop off locations can be found at www.uwbucks.org/stuffthebus. You can also donate online by designating your gift to Stuff the Bus, or by mailing a check to 413 Hood Blvd, Fairless Hills PA with “Stuff the Bus” in the memo line.
