The United Way of Bucks County’s mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities.  Our mission is shaped by the promise that great results can best be achieved through collective action.  We are building upon United Way’s traditional role of funding a broad range of programs serving the community’s most pressing needs, to ensure that together we address the root causes of the problems we face. 

We have an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated individual to establish a volunteer center that will facilitate the civic engagement of community members, promote volunteering as a means to address local community issues and educate the community about the value of volunteering and effective volunteer management in support of the Bucks County non-profit community.  Responsibilities include:

Volunteer Center

  1. Develop comprehensive plan for creating and implementing a volunteer center.
  2. Building Volunteer Center Advisory Board
  3. Staff Leader for Volunteer Center Advisory Board and liason to United Way Board of Directors
  4. Identifying and establishing relationships with key community stakeholders, including but not limited to Corporations, Human Service organizations, County Government, Elected Officials and Emergency Management
  5. Developing and implementing strategies for recruiting, training, tracking and recognizing volunteers
  6. Develop and maintain communications materials related to volunteers and activities
  7. Seeking out opportunities for revenue to support Volunteer Center operation through grants, contracts, and by collaborating with Resource Development on strategic initiatives.

The Volunteer and Communications Director is a key member of the staff team and will work closely with the SVP, Community Impact and the President and CEO.  Team building skills are important, as the successful candidate will regularly interact with key volunteers, public and private sector community leaders, agency executives, foundations, volunteers and our Board of Directors.

This position requires an individual who is highly motivated with demonstrated success in bringing groups together to form a productive work group, possess outstanding relationship building and communication skills.   

Qualifications

  1. Bachelors Degree required
  2. Demonstrated competence in all areas of responsibility outlined above
  3. Public Speaking and/or presentation skills necessary
  4. Demonstrated passion for human services and community building
  5. Must possess a current and valid driver’s license

Campaign Ambassador Job Description

Job Title:  Campaign Account Manager

Job Summary:  Part-time, flexible position starting late August, ending Thanksgiving. Manage important relationships with Bucks County companies and organizations that support United Way through workplace campaigns. Assist company/organization coordinator to plan and implement campaigns with executive and employee groups, including making effective group presentations, delivering and picking up materials, accurate record keeping, follow-up and recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of assigned accounts to plan, schedule, and complete successful fundraising campaigns. Contact and meet with company/organization coordinators to set-up campaign meetings, schedule agency speaker presentations, deliver materials, and be prepared to operate VHS/DVD video equipment. 
  • Gain a working knowledge of the United Way, its 33 member agencies and their 55 funded programs, grants received, and other community initiatives. 
  • Attend a daytime training workshop in Philadelphia from August 18 through August 22.
  • Make numerous educational presentations to small and large executive and employee groups.
  • Assume responsibility for achieving an assigned dollar goal established by the company and United Way staff.
  • Follow through on full campaign process, update files, record campaign activities and results, acknowledge performance, analyze and make recommendations.
  • Attend all related campaign meetings or functions including Days of Caring Projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to make public presentations to both large and small groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professional manner and appearance, and ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with many types of work styles.
  • Capability to type, use internet, email, and computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Able to work independently and as both a team leader and team member.
  • Excellent attention to detail, follow-through and problem solving.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Community-minded Bucks County resident preferred.
  • High School, some college or a four-year degree preferred. Prior sales or business experience in a professional workplace environment helpful.  
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a functioning automobile.
