History of BCWI Programs
Founded in 2011, Bucks County Women’s Initiative has shown the power of the purse by raising funds for programs throughout Bucks County that encourage women and girls to develop in mind, body and spirit.

Past funded programs include:
Empowerment Workshop Series: This series of workshops focused on teenage girls and ways they can increase their self esteem, make healthy decisions and look towards future career goals. Big Sister became aware of some of the issues young woman face today and learned some ways they can help their Littles overcome these challenges (Agency: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County)
GROW! A Day for Women and Girls: A one day empowerment program sponsored by Bucks County Housing Group for women and girls residing in Bucks County transitional housing programs including A Women’s Place, Libertae, BCHG and Bucks County Homeless Shelter. (Agency: Bucks County Housing Group)
Getting Ahead: A program that helps low income women develop a resource plan to successfully leave poverty permanently. (Agency: Bucks County Opportunity Council)
Taking Charge – Mothers Educational Summer Retreat Program: A continuum of educational programs and a support network for adolescent parents to gain competency in the following domains of their lives; education, parenting, relationships and employment. (Agency: Child, Home & Community)
Money Matters for Women in Recovery: Workshops that help women in recovery from substance abuse gain financial self-sufficiency. Topics include: budgeting, financial decision making, building/repaired credit, nutrition on a budget. (Agency: The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc.)
Decisions for Living for Incarcerated Women: Vita’s trained Decisions volunteers provide individual tutoring in the Decisions for Living (DFL) program to 20 incarcerated women at the Bucks County Correctional Facility (county jail) and the Community Corrections Center (work release facility).
