iSTEAMM Conference

Presented by PECO:

Presenting Bucks County’s new iSTEAMM conference! Help ensure that all students, regardless of income or background, can explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, and high-tech Manufacturing (STEAMM) – and build a bright future.

The iSTEAMM Conference, funded entirely by our sponsors, donors, and generous grants, serves over 800 7th and 8th grade students from every corner of Bucks County.

While all school districts participate, we emphasize closing the opportunity gap for at-risk students and those from low-income communities, by providing additional resources for those students and their schools.

In addition to providing students with free admission to the iSTEAMM conference, United Way of Bucks County offers an Access Scholarship to their school districts. Eligible schools have the option to apply for reimbursement of transportation costs and/or substitute teacher costs. Eligible schools are those with 25% or more of the student body participating in free lunch programs. Please click here to apply.

Why STEAMM education?

We know that part of the opportunity gap in our lowest income schools is that these students do not have adequate access to professionals in STEAMM careers. Providing the iSTEAMM program gives these students more opportunities to learn about STEAMM careers and greater connections with adults who work in those fields. In order to get employers, who pay decent wages to invest in our community, we need to have the skilled workforce to fill the jobs. By exposing students to these career paths we will help to improve economics in our community and improve the economic self sufficiency of these students in the future.

What do students do at iSTEAMM?

At iSTEAMM, each student has the opportunity to attend one introductory panel discussion and two STEAMM workshops of their choice. Sessions are hosted by volunteers who are professionals currently working in STEAMM careers. Students also have the opportunity to network with these professionals during their lunch period.
