As the holidays are upon us, food pantries are feeling increased demands. Thanks to the tremendous support of so many in Bucks County, UWBucks was able to provide $3,500 to Bucks County Housing Group’s food pantry in Penndel. This donation was funded with the last of the Bucks Knocks Out Hunger donations.
The Penndel pantry is open briefly three days a week, for a total of eight hours. Each time they open their doors, they provide food to almost 100 families. The donation from UWBucks will allow the pantry to meet the needs of their visitors throughout this difficult time of the year.
This marks the last of our BKO Hunger 2013 money. Bucks Knocks Out Hunger began with a goal to pack 100,000 meals and provide lean meat and fresh produce to Bucks County Opportunity Council’s food pantries. To do this, UWBucks had to raise $36,000. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our community, we exceeded all our goals on the day of the event.
We were able to pack 100,000 meals, at just 25 cents each. We also provided BCOC with $10,500 so they could stock up on lean meat and Rolling Harvest Food Rescue received $11,500 to deliver fresh produce to the pantries.
Then the money kept coming. Following coverage of the event, UWBucks received additional donations towards Bucks Knocks Out Hunger. Though BKO Hunger 2014 is already in the works, we realized a more pressing need now. That’s where the Penndel pantry came in.
We are so grateful for the support of our donors, volunteers and advocates who made it possible for UWBucks to knock out hunger. Thank you for going above and beyond, and allowing us to help food insecure families across the county with your generosity.
