Bucks Knocks Out Hunger Partners with Restaurant Week Bucks County

Select restaurants will gather donations to fight hunger during Restaurant Week

Bucks Knocks Out Hunger, United Way of Bucks County’s signature hunger fighting event, is teaming up with Visit Bucks County’s Restaurant Week to raise funds to fight hunger.  Select restaurants will gather donations during Restaurant Week April 28 – May 4 to benefit Bucks Knocks Out Hunger.

BKO Hunger seeks to eliminate hunger and food insecurity and increase access to nutritious foods for low-income children, families, and seniors.  It is a collaborative effort, bringing together businesses, non-profits, community members, and local farmers to provide a range of healthy options to those in need.  It culminates in a meal-packing event that will be held at Bucks County Community College in Newtown on June 21st where UW Bucks volunteers will pack 125,000 nutritious shelf-stable meals.

Restaurant Week Bucks County, an initiative of Visit Bucks County, is an opportunity for locals and visitors to sample the finest cuisine from the County’s top eateries at discounted prices.  Now, in its second year, Restaurant Week has more than 65 participating restaurants, bistros and pubs from 20 different towns.  Participating restaurants will offer three-course prix fixe dinner menus featuring signature dishes at a special rate of $25 or $35 per person.  Select restaurants, including  Mike’s York Street Grill, Villaggio Cucina, Cheese Dawgs, Casa Toro Mexican Grill, Buttonwood Grill, Cock ‘N Bull, Earl’s New American, Canal Street Grille, and Siam Cuisine Thai Restaurant, are gathering donations or giving a portion of there proceeds to support Bucks Knocks Out Hunger.

Hunger and food insecurity are significant problems in Bucks County. About 1 in 11 Bucks County residents and 16% of all children are food insecure.  Food pantries, which are essential lifelines to assist low-income families in need, are frequently low in supplies during summer months, when donations are slowest.  Bucks Knocks Out Hunger provides shelf-stable meals to assist families in need when they are needed the most.

In addition to raising funds, BKO Hunger offers volunteer opportunities. From packing meals to delivering boxes to taking photographs, there are many ways to get involved at the community event each year.

Gifts of all sizes help UW Bucks raise funds for Bucks Knocks Out Hunger. Donations can be made online at www.uwbucks.org/bkohunger, dropped off at any Penn Community Bank, or mailed to the UW Bucks office (413 Hood Blvd, Fairless Hills, PA 19030) with the subject line “BKO Hunger.”
