HOW DOES FRESH CONNECT CHANGE LIVES?

United Way
Dear Friend,
Sweet potatoes, baked apples, and steaming vegetables. Most of us take for granted that our holiday meals will be full of the foods we love – the warm dishes that bring back memories.
Fresh, homemade foods are often not on the menu for food insecure families. Neither are healthy fruits and vegetables. Produce is rarely available at food pantries and is way too expensive to purchase with a limited budget.
In Bucks County, about 1 in 10 adults (and a staggering 4 out of every 25 kids!) lack access to affordable, nutritious food. Eileen, an older adult living on a fixed income, is one of those people.
Like many struggling seniors, Eileen’s finances just don’t allow for fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables. As hard
as she tries, she just can’t even stretch her food budget to last the whole month.
Eileen was referred to Fresh Connect, a free, mobile farmer’s market. She receives fresh fruits and vegetables every week.
It has made a remarkable difference. She has regained her interest in cooking. She’s eating healthier and feeling better, both physically and mentally. She is making new friends of all ages at Fresh Connect, sharing her cooking tips and recipes with some of the young mothers. Of Fresh Connect, Eileen says, “You are not only feeding my body, you are also feeding my spirit.”
You can help Eileen and many others like her. When you support Fresh Connect, you’re providing households with 20 lbs of healthy produce every week. You’re ensuring that children get the nutrients they need to grow up strong, that their parents have the energy to get to work, and that seniors can access wholesome foods that help them stay healthy.
If you can help us keep Fresh Connect rolling, give online atwww.uwbucks.org/freshconnect or mail a check to our office: United Way of Bucks County, 413 Hood Blvd., Fairless Hills, PA 19030.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at 215.949.1660 ext., 104 or timp@uwbucks.org.
Sincerely,
United Way
