Johnson & Johnson: Community Impact in Action

Marissa Christie, President & CEO at United Way of Bucks County”We are responsible to the communities in which we live and work…” – from the Johnson & Johnson Credo

A 2015 article from the Harvard Business Review notes that, “[m]ost companies have long practiced some form of corporate social and environmental responsibility with the broad goal, simply, of contributing to the well-being of the communities and society they affect and on which they depend.”

The authors go on to note that many businesses aren’t as good at it as they think; efforts are scattered, unfocused, and often run without the support of top leaders. When it comes to corporate social responsibility (CSR), talk can be cheap. Not all companies are truly committed to community; not all invite their employees to make a difference.

For many years, our partners at Johnson & Johnson have been the gold standard of CSR. Now, they are poised to make a greater impact than ever before with a generous $2:$1 corporate match that follows employee gifts, including to their local United Way.

At United Way of Bucks County, we’ve been fortunate to have generous support from the J & J team, (including Janssen, McNeil, and many other subsidiaries) for decades. Each year, about 600 employees help our community through gifts to United Way of Bucks County.

Johnson & Johnson employees give more to United Way of Bucks County than any other group and more than 1 in 5 give at the leadership level (over $1,000 a year).

Their generosity allows our United Way to innovate, to continuously improve service, and – along with our partners – to provide immediate and compassionate care to those in need. Every single day, someone in Bucks County is better off because J & J cares.

Through the support of J & J team members, the homeless are housed, the hungry are fed, families are strengthened, seniors are cared for, and the most vulnerable young children in our community are protected and given access to education.

All of us at United Way of Bucks County want to give thanks to a team that shows us every day what it means to care for our community.

Thank you, Johnson & Johnson.
