Member Agency Spotlight – Bucks For Kids

Over the next few weeks, we will be working on posting a series of blogs featuring some of the newest UW Bucks member agencies.
In this “Member Agency Spotlight”, we want to acquaint you with these agencies, what services they provide to our community, and ways that you can get involved.

We had a Q&A with Nancy Larkin Taylor, Esq., Executive Director of Bucks for Kids.

Mission: to normalize the lives of foster kids in Bucks County.

What is your name and position at your organization and how long have you worked there?

This is Nancy Larkin Taylor, Esq. I am the Executive Director of Bucks for Kids.

Tell us something interesting about yourself?

I am from Ocean Co. NJ and my Dad had 9 brothers and one sister. So, I have 45 first cousins on one side. I have organized a family reunion this July. We need name tags.

What does your organization do and what is your mission?

Bucks 4 Kids raises funds and distributes grants on an individual case by case basis to Kids in foster care. Most of our grants are used for summer camp, extra-curricular activities, music, dance lessons and the like. Our Mission is to normalize the lives of foster kids in Bucks County.

How long have you been in operation in Bucks County?

Since 1989.

What are some programs and services that you offer?

We do not have programs and services per se. Grants are submitted by the child’s case workers with a description of what is needed and why it will enhance the child’s life. We review each grant at our BOD meetings and award the funds, if appropriate.

What are some ways that members of the community can get involved with your organization?

We rely upon our community members to have fundraisers, Celebrity Bar Tenders, Golf Outings, Breakfast with Santa, Harvest Fest donations, church collections, and the County Commissioners.

Why is being a member agency with The United Way of Bucks County important to your team?

We look to the United Way to give us credibility in the nonprofit community and to allow donors to give via their employment

What are some of your goals for 2018?

Make Bucks for Kids a household name., increase marketing efforts across print and digital channels, expand the scope of the fund-raising campaign.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Once people find out about Bucks for Kids, they are supportive. We have no paid staff and relying upon all volunteers is difficult. We could use staff.
