Stuff the Bus Returns to Help Bucks County Students

By Sophie McKnight / Intern at United Way of Bucks County

Now that our social media plans have kicked off this week, UW Bucks wants to start spreading the word about Stuff the Bus!

As a kid, there was nothing better than walking into class with a brand new, brightly colored backpack, or opening up a new box of crayons to use with all of your new friends.

Going back to school is an exciting time for kids, but you’d be surprised to know that not every kid has the basic school supplies like a pencils or notebooks.

School supplies are not cheap. It costs an average of $200 for all of a middle school students school supplies. This means that for a family with multiple children living off of minimum wage, that’s almost 2 weeks’ worth of pay.

That’s a real struggle for some families. As a result, we know that 4 out of 25 kids in Bucks County will have a hard time securing the things they need.

UW Bucks is working hard to get those kids what they need – but we need your help, too.

We believe that a child’s future and success in the classroom should not be determined by their family’s income. If you share that belief, please help us “Stuff the Bus”!

This is UW Bucks’ 8th annual Stuff the Bus back-to-school supply drive. Last year, we exceeded our goal of 2,500 backpacks, and were able to pack 2,868 bags full of brand new school supplies, all thanks to our community.

This year, our goal is to pack 3,000 backpacks. And we hope that with the support of our community, we can exceed this goal.

So, how can you help?

It only costs $35 to provide on backpack full of new school supplies for a child that needs it. You donate the money, we’ll pack the bag.

If you would like to donate supplies, pick up some extra pencils and folders next time you’re at the store, or start your own mini-drive at work or in your neighborhood.
