Thank you to Suez Volunteers

Capturing the great work of the volunteers during the SUEZ Volunteer Day

By Sophie McKnight / Intern at United Way of Bucks County

My name is Sophie McKnight and I am interning at United Way of Bucks County this summer. I am currently a rising senior at Elizabethtown College, majoring in corporate communications.

This summer, one of my assignments is to write a weekly blog post about what I am doing and learning here at United Way. I will be sharing these blogs on UW Bucks’ website, Facebook, and Twitter page, along with my LinkedIn profile.

Last week, I joined some of the other UW Bucks staff members at SUEZ Water Technologies + Solutions for their employee volunteer day. With the SUEZ volunteers, we packed STEM kits, toiletry kits, spice kits, that will impact over 5,000 people.

My assignment was to document the day in pictures and videos. I was able to interact with everyone in the room, and offer my help to any table that needed it.

This week, I took the photos and videos taken at the event and put them into a promotional, “thank you” video for SUEZ. Using Movie Maker, I was able to select the perfect images and videos that showed a majority of the materials being packed while also capturing the mood of the day.

By going back and looking at previous UW videos, I learned the style and length that these videos typically are. Many of the previous videos are between 1-3 minutes long, which at first seemed like no time at all.

While going through all of the material from SUEZ, I learned that you only need a few 3-4 second clips from the day to allow the viewer to get the full experience. Within 1 ½ minutes, I included 11 videos and 12 pictures that showed almost every volunteer from every work station in the room.

Making this video was a fun and interesting first project here at UW Bucks. Going forward, I now know what types of pictures and videos I should be looking for at UW Bucks events, and how to put them together in an effective video that won’t lose the viewers interest.

With United Way’s signature hunger-fighting event, Bucks Knocks Out Hunger, coming up on the 22nd, I am hopeful that I will be able to do another video like this that will show the community how great of an event BKO is.

From all of us here at United Way of Bucks County, a big thank you SUEZ for hosting such a fun and important event – and for helping so many people! See you at Bucks Knocks Out Hunger!
