Update from UW Bucks CEO regarding COVID-19

Greetings from United Way of Bucks County,

Like you, we are monitoring Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) closely.

On Monday, we announced that Bet on Success, our casino night fundraiser to help kids in need (originally scheduled for April 4, 2020) has been postponed to September 26, 2020.

We did not make this decision lightly. Our organization fights for the education, financial stability, and health of every person in our community. We believe that we owe it to our community to do our part in minimizing the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

As more cases are reported in our area, we are particularly concerned about our most vulnerable populations. We are continuing to meet and work with our partners to ensure that we can address the needs in our community.

We are also concerned about residents in the ALICE population: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.

These are families who live paycheck to paycheck, above the Federal Poverty Line, but with very little breathing room in their budget. Missing even one or two paychecks can be catastrophic.

We anticipate that there will be an increased need for one-time financial assistance in the coming weeks and months. We want to be sure that people who need help are getting it.

If you – or someone you know – is struggling with basic needs, please encourage them to contact 211. Through 211, we make resource navigators available 24/7/365 for every Bucks County resident.

Our team will continue to update local resources in 211 as the situation here in Bucks County evolves.

We recommend that you also bookmark www.buckscounty.org/CoronavirusInfo on the County of Bucks website. There are important and frequently updated links on the page.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

Sincerely,
