Bucks Knocks Out Hunger

COVID-19 has created a food crisis in Bucks County. Help us Fight Hunger By Donating Your Time Or Money To Our Bucks Knocks Out Hunger Fundraiser

Bucks Knocks Out Hunger is a community-driven hunger fighting project that unites thousands of donors, advocates, and volunteers to fight hunger in Bucks County. It is a fundraiser for Bucks County’s food pantries, a chance to advocate for those who are hungry and food insecure, and an opportunity to volunteer to provide food to people in need.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bucks Knocks Out Hunger included a mass-meal packing volunteer event, but this year for the first time BKO Hunger will feature a massive, county-wide food drive instead. (see details below or download our flyer!)

The need for healthy non-perishable foods is greater than ever. To meet that need, on Saturday, June 20th we will organize four drive-through, no-contact food drop-off sites in Bucks County, gathering thousands of pounds of the foods people need most, and getting it to food pantries to distribute.

BKO also will raise funds to provide over 32,000 lbs of locally grown produce and fresh dairy products like milk, butter, and cheese – items which are not often donated to pantries.

Our goal for 2019 was to raise at least $90,000 to help people in Bucks County. We exceeded that goal so this year we’ve raised the bar, making our goal to raise $100,000 for food pantries in Bucks County!

Now more than ever we need your hunger-fighting passion.

Make a donation now.

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP
  • Create a food box in your home and fill it with healthy, non-perishable foods (a suggested list is HERE). We have some fun ideas for themed boxes that meet certain special food needs. Families can decorate them, and then collect items that match that particular need. Click here for some ideas!

All donations are welcome! No time to create a food box? You are more than welcome to bring us a bag of food.

  • Organize a food drive in your neighborhood, your workplace, your faith community, or with your friends and extended family and bring it to one of our drop off sites on June 20th

Please no glass containers or expired food. Please check dates before donating.

  • Join our social media squad and post weekly announcements, tweets, and updates, so everyone in our community knows about and is encouraged to support BKO Hunger.
  • Donate! We need to raise $100,000 to provide year-round support to food pantries in Bucks County. Cash donations provide pantries with the most flexibility to purchase what they lack. To donate click HERE.
  • To volunteer to help in any of the above ways or for more information email Tim at timp@uwbucks.org.
NEED IN BUCKS COUNTY

Before the COVID-19  Crisis about 8% of all residents of Bucks County were considered food insecure, including 12.8% of children.  Now those numbers have doubled.

HOW DONATIONS ARE USED

All proceeds from BKO Hunger benefit people who are hungry or food insecure in Bucks County. Donations to the project will continue to fight hunger throughout the upcoming year.

  • $25,000 allows us to provide fresh produce to pantries and senior centers at an incredibly low cost. Our partner Rolling Harvest Food Rescue will use these funds to secure produce from small, sustainable farms in Bucks County.
  • $25,000 secures dairy products like milk, cheese, and butter, items that do not typically come in through food drives. This money helps pantries fill the gaps when they are critically low. Funds are distributed through the network of pantries by Bucks County Opportunity Council.
  • $20,000 will be allocated to support Fresh Connect mobile farmers market.
  • $30,000 will support the delivery of fresh foods to low-income homebound seniors and others who don’t have access to transportation or can’t shop for themselves because of COVID-19.

WHY SUPPORT THE BKO HUNGER CAUSE?

We believe that in a community like ours, no child or adult should go to bed hungry. No family should have to choose between food on the table or a roof over their heads. That’s why Bucks Knocks Out Hunger is an important cause. There aren’t many organizations that provide food pantry fundraisers that support so many food pantries in the local community. Bucks Knocks Out Hunger, our food pantry fundraiser, helps thousands of people every year. With more donations, that number can continue to grow.

OTHER AREAS OF SUPPORT

We also work with many provide Bucks County housing groups and organizations to help families in need. Many times, people who go hungry struggle with shelter or a steady income. Bucks County housing groups and agencies, such as ours, can help people with the cost of shelter and food. We advocate for the less fortunate through our Bucks County housing groups and food pantry programs.
